Sustainable flowers : Short Stem Daffodil Arrangement

Before the season gallops ahead I want to share a short stem daffodil arrangement. Like short stem arrangements that have gone before. This was a mix of left overs and some hand picking amongst the hedging at the allotment.

For this short stem arrangement I mainly used a mix of fluffy and unusual daffodils/narcissi. I never remember what was ordered or planted, enjoying the surprise when they come into flower. However, I adore the fluffy multi petal varieties. There was a big bed of pale peach and soft white when I started growing flowers but they seem to have disappeared. A note to order more for autumn planting. My cutting garden is a bit of a waterlogged slug fest during the winter. They seem to grow better at the allotment where they can be left undisturbed which is where most of these were grown.

I love how versatile these arrangements can be. They would look gorgeous for a baby or bridal shower. And equally lovely for a spring wedding. In fact I used tall lassi cups for an early summer wedding last year.

Due to the weight of the heads some of the stems snapped whilst I was working with them. Instead of throwing away adding a scrunch of chicken wire to a favourite lassi cup gave them a new purpose. The flowers were positioned into a short round shape along with a few parrot tulips and blackcurrant leaves. To give a whispy finish, the first cow parsley flowers were woven in to create movement.

Yellow can get a bad reputation but mixing shades from soft butter to deep apricot along with unexpected zingy shades creates a really fun and vibrant arrangement. It’s all about the texture and tone mix.

The garden is in FULL bloom, if you are looking for arrangements big or small for any celebration this year please get in touch. All I need is your budget and date and we can go from there. All my flowers are grown with the seasons meaning you get the best in every bunch.
