I have been meaning to share this simple short stem vase arrangement. A few weeks ago, I ran a beautiful Spring Garden Workshop amongst the flowers. We toured the garden, then gathered at the dining table to create our very own jam jar posies. It was magic!
I created this low floral arrangement using the poor tulips that snapped as I picked them. The flowers spend so much time and energy growing – using every part is important.
This variety, Anqelique, is exquisite. Layers of ruffled petals swirled with pinks, white and dash of green. They last nearly a full two weeks in a vase and always gather compliments.
For this sustainable floral arrangement, I used a wide neck lassi cup. Normally I recommend a narrow necked vase for making arrangements appear bigger or allowing height. This time a low deep vase is a perfect vessel. If I’m lucky I find these brass cups in charity shops but a quick internet search always pulls a few treasures . I love these vases and have ten patiently stashed away ready for my next wedding.
With peonies and roses budding nicely this technique makes the most of all the seasons best flowers. First take a small ball of chicken wire and squish into the vase. Fill the vase to the top with water and then add a few soft leaves to outside edge of the vase. Put your large stems in and around the centre. To finish add any wispy bits, this could be cow parsley or some soft grasses. The flowers will change with the seasons but be no less beautiful.
If you’d like to see me making this, I put this reel together on my Instagram account. If you like to make your flowers go a long way these posts might inspire you..Making Ribbon from Flower Petals or Single Stem Styling
