Spring tables and natural ways to refresh your home

16th February 2026

We’re in the hardest part of the year. I’m not I’ve spoken to anyone this week who’s rejoicing in the endless grey winter. Spring and all it’s uplift seems far away. My beloved garden a wash out and any reserves of Summer vitamin D and optimism depleting fast.

Spring will come, not anytime soon but it will, my camera roll tells me so!

Whilst we wait I’ve had a look at past Spring tables and other ways I’ve brought nature into my home. I’ve deliberately selected posts written around this time of year. They use just the gentlest of Spring touches to give the inside a natural refresh. As with all my posts there is always an element of sustainability, whether it’s recycling or reusing. There is plenty to be getting on with. If only I could pause Netflix for a second and get on with it.

Personally, I’ve found inspiration and motivation comes from being surrounded by stuff I love. I’m a huge collector of charity shop treasures and bits gathered on trips and travels. Before Christmas in preparation for a kitchen revamp, everything was packed away. As well as missing the sun, I miss my vase collection. The kitchen has yet to be started, my stuff still packed away.

I realised whilst cooking dinner how much my creativity is fuelled by things that catch my eye…usually flowers and vessels. Currently, I have neither so dug into my archive of posts to find early spring inspiration for the home.

Spurred on by the collection of posts below. I have been pulling out a few essentials. Over the years I’ve built up a super collection of Talking Tables bud vases,  I love them. An accidental bunch of British grown daffs made it into my food shop. Adding a single stem to each bud vase did make such a difference to my kitchen bench. They were mixed with left over taper candles in a soft orange and off white.

Spring colours with winter purpose. I’d encourage you to see what you have, then mix it in unexpected ways. It’s surprising what a difference a little intention makes.

When there are no flowers a fresh tablecloth and candle does make a room feel cosy. Napkins bring contrast and colour to a simple Sunday dinner. Fabric bunting and fairy lights keeps mantles and dull spaces feel loved. You do have to tread carefully with bunting. It can get too neat and twee very quickly. Something with a handmade feel, like this embroidered bunting, is perfect. Or you could make your own, I’ve made some before using a silk sample fabric book. Once the triangles have been cut, it’s an easy sewing project.

I don’t want to advocate buying bunches of imported flowers. The best option at this time of year are potted bulbs easily found in supermarkets or garden centres. Added to any dish, bowl or flower pot. They bring life wherever placed. Once flowered, tuck the bulbs into the garden, next year you’ll be pleasantly surprised as to where they pop up.

The last selection of images celebrate the first proper flowers in the garden, daffodils. It’s always good to be prepared. Using moss in arrangements is a love of mine. These moss nests, didn’t get the air time they deserved. They need to be made in advance of Easter, I’m giving you the heads up now. I dry them out on the radiator, an ideal project to get on with whilst the heating is still on!

Of course I’d prefer to have the back doors open and be typing along to bird song. The season will be here before we know it. I am trying to use this time to take stock. Clearing cupboards and taking an inventory of things. Making lists of what I might need/want. The most sustainable way to live is using what you have and making sure everything gets a good go. Hopefully my new kitchen will emerge in the Spring time and with it my collections and treasures ready to be used again.
