Before the seasons slip away I wanted to share this Spring Mossy Meadow Centrepiece. As part of my learnings in sustainable floristry I created this centrepiece last year (2025) with left overs from some funeral work. I had a mix of tulips and stocks as well as a wonderful gathering of fluffy narcissi.
Maybe its just me but my narcissi never come back the same, second year round. They mostly revert to their trumpet-y selves. I have no problem with this. I’m wondering if yours do the same?
Anyway, back to the centrepiece. A mix of these along a dinner table would look so good. As a huge fan of moss I love how it is very much part of the look. You could vary the size and shapes of this to create a really interesting mix. Styled with candles and some gorgeous tableware. You’d be on your way to a very nice table set up; ideal for a baby shower, intimate wedding or celebratory dinner.
For the mechanics, I used a biodegradable tray with a mix of jars and bottles centred and fixed. I covered the lot in chicken wire and pushed moss into the gaps. Making sure none of the wire or jars could be seen. I then filled the jars with water and added flowers at different heights. From memory I used the height of the stocks and the wildest tulips to create the shape of the arrangement. Adding in the puffy narcissi’s at the base for coverage. For the mid size flowers, smaller tulips and ranunculus were added in to replicate the different growing heights you’d see in nature. I made a reel about which you can see here on my Instagram account.
Because I was using up what I had/tidying up with this one I didn’t add many ‘whispy bits’. If this was for an event I’d definitely add a few extra bits or maybe a trailing leaf or two but for a practice, I love it!
Should you find this post and on your own floral path, my advice to you (and myself) is to keep trying out new ideas. The practice of working and photographing British flowers is on going. Through these moments; I can work out new styles, flex my creative muscle and get better. Something I always strive to do.
If you’re looking for British grown seasonal flowers for small weddings or events in and around Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Please get in touch.
The best way to work is; let me know your budget and what you need and we can go from there. If you’re happy to be surprised, let nature led the way and I can create some gorgeous flowers for you.
