Today I’m sharing some recent sustainable funeral work. This colourful and woodland casket arrangement was a real pleasure to create for such a lovely family.
Funeral flowers are always a favourite of mine to work on. The fact a family chooses to use my work to pay tribute to a loved one is not lost on me. I take the job seriously. I always hope to honour and capture spirit of the person being said goodbye to.
The brief for this casket arrangement was colourful with a woodland feel. The gentleman loved eccentric and exotic flowers and had a huge love of nature, the outdoors and being in woodland. I was told he would have loved having seasonal British flowers as part of his tribute. Being Spring, I leant into the colours of the flowers rather than a specific type. I used a mix of rainbow Tulips in red, yellow and a deep magenta to give it a bit of zing. Adding (slightly temperamental) white Stocks for scent and grounding. Then, including Iris’ and green Cornus for a tropical touch. Everything was constructed using a fully sustainable base of biodegradable trays and floral pouches, chicken wire and moss.
To finish, the family asked me to dress the coffin with a garland of Ivy. I went into the funeral directors on the morning of the funeral. Adding swaths of ivy along the side of the coffin. I made sure ivy tendrils from the casket tumbled downwards to meet the garland, making it feel harmonious.
There is so much purpose to be found in funeral work. I really hope to continue to evolve and develop in this area as the years goes on. If you are looking for sustainable funeral flowers please get in touch as I’d love to create a fitting tribute for your loved one.
