DIY : Decorations to make with your Children’s craft supplies

I wasn’t sure what to call this post – Decorations to make with your Children’s craft supplies is exactly what I’ve done. So that’s what I’ve called it! These decorations make the most of basic craft supplies and are perfect to be made alongside your children.

These decorations have taken shape over the course of the year. When we sit down to make I like to let my children decide what they want to create. Then happily let my imagination run free alongside theirs. Since my hand-drawn napkins I’ve been drawn to symbols and colour this year and hugely inspired by my interpretation of Mexican style crafts.

The silver hearts were made with air-dry clay and silver leaf. Use PVA glue to stick the silver to the heart and back with fabric. Then tread dried flowers to make hanging pendants using clear fishing wire. These have gone up on my mantle as part of our Christmas decorations but might not go down in January!

If the hanging heart decorations weren’t enough. I have two more decoration ideas for you to make alongside your little ones.

First up, Mini Willow Wreaths

There are two willow trees in our local park and can never resist bringing the windfall home. The ‘wreath’ shapes are made simply by twisting the willow twigs into a circle and tying a knot of colourful ribbon at the top. Hang using clear fishing wire, any string or twine will work. The simplicity of these really works.

Colourful Sequin Heart Tags

Another easy one using up what is available. First draw hearts using a mix of bold colours and pattern. We used paint sticks on children’s craft paper for these. Making them feel naive and smudgy. Add an outline of eco glitter followed by a dotting of sequins. Stick the heart onto thin card (I used old business postcards) and add colourful ribbon or string to hang. These would look great tied onto gifts or as a name place on a festive table.

I hope these give some inspiration for decoration ideas to make alongside your children or craft supplies to add to your stash or gift to those with children. Happy making. x
