Creative Living : A look at my first ‘Quickie’ Workshop

I sometimes catch myself wondering if running workshops is a frivolous pursuit. However, when people gather at my table. I see and feel first hand how important it is to offer a retreat and an escape. Now more than ever.

I have been running workshops for well over twelve years. Every single one has been different. Yet, at the same time, people always leave with a buzz and sense of being grounded. For me being creative and actively living a creative life has taken me on a winding path. When one route has closed another has opened. Not only has this kept me moving. It has allowed me to become a full version of myself. As I’ve written about before, I have always struggled with my self worth.

Through daily acts of creative self expression I have found my voice and place in the world. I really want to pass this on to as many people as I can.

So often we have been conditioned to seek a measurable outcome for our actions. With my workshops the focus is on the action of making for pleasure and making alongside others. Rather than what we come out with. However, everyone always crafts something beautiful anyway! It’s win, win!

Hosting workshops at home, although mad when I think about it. Gives my workshops a sense of intimacy. The human connection forged around my table is what makes them so unique.

I find those attending are always so respectable and delighted to be with me. I always give away a little too much information which definitely helps break any barriers down.  My job as a host and teacher is to make everyone feel at ease.

Running monthly workshops, is a new stop on my creative journey. Pulling back (a little) and offering a quick creative fix feels the right step for my workshops. Even though I find myself wanting to give everything.  Keeping them short, sweet and light really seems to be hitting the right mark. If you’d like to join me – ‘Quickies‘ happen on the first Saturday of the month. The next one will be Saturday 5th April and the Saturday 3rd May. The subject changes monthly depending on what I have an abundance of. In March we looked at natural dying. In April we will be using up all the dried flowers I have stashed away.
