British Grown Flowers : May Bouquet

31st May 2025 , ,

I’m not sure I could love this May Bouquet anymore. Time nearly ran out for my monthly British Grown Flowers : May Bouquet quest. With hours to spare and energy lagging after teaching a monthly ‘Quickie’ workshop. I gathered a bucket of the most beautiful garden flowers I could.

What I created was a handtied bouquet full of the best (IMO) flowers of the year so far. David Austin Eustacia Vye and Boscobel Roses. Hi – Scent sweetpeas and a pretty mix of Snap Dragons (Antirrhinums). Learning from past bouquets, I kept the colours and flower choice tight. The petals on each variety were tinged with a similar shade of mauve. Meaning everything harmonised really nicely together.

For the actual arrangement I kept stems loose as I created the bouquet. The pressure can get to me when I put a bouquet together and everything gets a bit rigid. I really challenged myself to relax with this one. Doing 80 percent of the bouquet, leaving it. Then returning a few hours later, gave clarity to the shape and balance of the bouquet. More sweet peas were woven in as I came to photograph it, giving it a wild look.

Everything was finished with a velvet ribbon. Silk and string tend to be my ‘go-to’ during the summer months. The velvet ribbon gave this garden grown bouquet a suitable amount of grandeur. The colour was a perfect compliment to the flowers. It’s from VV Rouleux, I took Milly there for her first ever visit during half term. There is a new ribbon addict in the mix!  🙂

My wedding season starts in June and I’m looking forward to creating bouquets for brides and their bridesmaids. The garden is fully stocked with flowers. I’m really excited to get creating for my 2025 brides. For updates, come and find over on Instagram.
