Continuing the goal I set in January for sharing more seasonal bouquets. Here is February’s British grown bouquet.
Last month I felt confident that February’s bouquet would feature at least one daffodil but alas! The daffodils are looking optimistic but firmly closed this month. Instead I had to dig a little deeper. I have been adding hellebores to the garden and this month they have been looking fantastic. They always seem shy plants to me, their heads bowed to the mud below them. However, as soon as you see them up close, they are hypnotic. The centres full of some many textures and subtle colour changes. I could look at them for hours.
I wanted to keep this bouquet earthy. It was gathered and created straight out in the garden. It feels simple but works. Inspired by the Flower Fairy poems Milly and I have been reading before bed. I wanted to create something that was suitable for fairies – petite, natural and wild. The buds are about to burst so it feels strangely hopeful to me. The last fairy sized bouquet before the garden wakes up once more.
In this bouquet there is a mix of Hellebores on a framework of Amelanchier and Hydrangea Buds. Ivy provides extra movement and texture. What I learnt in creating this February bouquet, is sticking to limited ingredients and colours doesn’t hinder the final look. If anything it makes a stronger statement.
