Quickies in the Garden

My monthly floral craft workshops, or Quickies as they are affectionately known. Have been going down a storm. Quickies were introduced in March for many reasons. Firstly, I wanted to share my deep love and connection to nature. Whatever the season, there is always an activity to bring us in line with what’s happening outside.

Secondly, after much thought and reflection on my last growing season. There was a need for some financial stability within the business. Flower growing gives me the flexibility I need for family life. It does not always offer the financial stability I need to operate as a human!

Creating a monthly event has been the anchor it needed. I believe that creativity needs boundaries to thrive. Giving myself the challenge of creating a monthly event using what I have is doing me so much good. There is always an internal struggle with never feeling enough. Testing myself by doing less and not being perfect whilst seeing delighted folk at my table. Gives me the chance to breath out. Not totally, I’m still a work in progress but more than usual!

Through simple 90 minute workshops, I can share in person what I’m inspired and focused on that month. The garden is always open for a wander. Now as the weather is fair I can hold these Quickie workshops in amongst the cutting beds.

For May’s workshop we picked and used the last tulips to create the most wonderful jam jar arrangements. I’m getting regulars now. Building up a community of wonderful women who enjoy the world I have created. Holding space and giving those at the table permission to create, cut flowers and step out of their worlds for a while, gives my job such fulfilment and purpose.

I often hear ‘I hadn’t thought of that!’ when it comes to working with flowers. It’s taken as a huge compliment. In my own quiet way, I can change peoples perceptions of themselves and what they can do.
