Christmas wreaths have taken over and I am not sad about it! From hosting workshops to private commissions, it has been such a pleasure to make a vast array of Christmas wreaths.
I have never made fresh Christmas wreaths as part of my business before. And deliberated for a while about doing them. Not having a pine forest close by meant buying in the materials needed. I am so glad I did, I made sure everything I used (for foliage) was British grown and loved how the moss has been gathered by the same family for 25 years.
Christmas turned up at 6.10am on the last Thursday in November and I’ve only just swept up the last pine needle. Using new materials gave me such an inspiration boost. The moss can only be described as delicious. It was so earthy and alive – I have been using it anywhere I can. A simple mossed wreath is absolute perfection. I have been experimenting with different foam free techniques in my work. I look forward to mixing my experiments in with my own flowers – when they’re back. One of the many delights in working with the seasons, is each one inspires the next.
The wreaths featured here were for private orders. As I’ve said before I like to create ‘collections’ inspired by my fashion design past. Using a base of different pine leaves, I mixed in homegrown Bay leaves and Sweet Annie. I couldn’t resist dried limes and oranges, brass bells and dusky pink velvet ribbons to finish them off. I’ll definitely be doing wreaths again. If you missed them this year, I’ll definitely have them again in 2025.
