Creative Living : Decorating with the Seasons

I learnt a lot in 2024. Really leaning into the beauty of decorating with the seasons was one of the biggest lessons. Sometimes when I talk (over) enthusiastically about the bounty each month brings. I often get a sense of blankness from the recipient.

BUT…

Each week nature gives us a new treasure. From the first golden daffodil bravely flowering on a bleak February  to morning. To a cobweb covered dahlia marking the end of fresh flower season. There is so much to wonder in every single month. I made a few compromises to please others last year – namely the use of eucalyptus/gypsophilia . When I trusted myself and was trusted by a customer to follow my instincts and use purely what was available. I produced work that moved me to the right kind of tears!

These decorations were for a local restaurant- Food by John Lawson. Food, specialises in producing dishes reflecting the season. It’s a great pairing, not only is it at the top of my road but sits so well with my seasonal lead blooms. Inspired by the traditional with a modern twist December menu. I worked Holly and Ivy in amongst the shelves. Draping and trailing leaves from metal vases and jewel green Tamegroute bowls. It was understated, simple and really elegant. When then lights were low and candles lit, it was so cosy and grounding. Especially during the frenzy of Christmas.

As I start to plan my year ahead, I am filled with resolve to truly stick with the seasons. Using each months abundance to my advantage. The fresh flowers will begin at Easter time but I still have dried flowers and plenty of deep winter foliage if you need them before.  Also, I’d LOVE to do a winter wedding. If you are planning something for this year do get in touch – we could create some real magic.
