British Grown Flowers : March Bouquet

For March’s British Grown Bouquet, I bring you a tutti fruity mix of spring flowers. Winter finally feels like it’s left the building and the first flush of colour is returning to the cutting garden.

Once again I was surprised what this March Bouquet gave me. I wasn’t expecting ranunculus . My experiment of growing them in a crate in my greenhouse has paid off. These marshmallow beauties bloomed just in time for Mother’s day.  I took great pleasure in cutting myself the first bunch. It could be the only bunch but I’m feeling optimistic!

Everyday the garden gathers pace. Leaves are unfurling and buds are starting to open. The tulip game begins. Each year the flowering of the tulips determines when I get to officially open. I’m waiting patiently to see which bed opens first and what varieties I ordered.

I love to use tulips in-the-green within bouquets. Sometimes they stay as buds. In the warm window of my kitchen those used in this bouquet have turned orange and fully opened. It’s such a delight, orange tulips don’t get the recognition they deserve! Also included in this bouquet is amelanchier and blossom from my neighbours tree, blackcurrant leaves, ranunculus , tulips and narcissi. All tied together with a bow of my naturally dyed bamboo silk. I used strawflowers for this yellow colour.

The bouquets are still feeling petite in size – I’m beginning to think this is my signature bouquet style. Keep following along to see what next month brings. How it’ll be April I don’t know.
