British Grown Flowers : In Celebration of May Flowers. Simple ways to work with flowers.

Today I want to celebrate May with a selection of my favourite past floral projects.  May flowers bring their own kind of joy. It’s the first month that brings a steady stream of ‘proper’ flowers from the cutting garden into the house.

By proper flowers I mean flowers which have been grown with the intention of being cut and used in arrangements. During the winter I find peace in working with foraged finds and dried bits. However, fresh flowers bring so much delight. Even before I set Lotts and Lots up as a flower farm, my goal was to have flowers in my house from the first tulip to the last dahlia. Obviously, things got out of hand.

My kitchen and all my floral stuff has been packed away during the winter, resulting in a low creativity levels. The kitchen is complete and the unboxing of forgotten and favourite jugs, vases and vessels has begun. I could feel the stardust/petals falling as everything found it’s place. Alongside it all was my urge to create with flowers once more.

I don’t believe flowers have to be fancy; a simple bud vase of daisies and grasses are just as beautiful as a full on wedding arch. Surrounding myself with flowers, keeps my feet on the ground and reminds me to pause in frantic moments of everyday life. I like to put little vases and arrangements where ever life gets stressful.

For this post I want to look back at some of my past work to remind me and inspire you to add flowers into your everyday. Jam jars placed in baskets create sweet centrepieces for dinner tables. Floral Disco balls are always a good idea. Hand tied bouquets make a great gift. Flower pressing is always fascinating, especially when you hear the ‘squish’.

If you’re planning on DIY’ing your wedding flowers, get creative with your vessels and use vintage lassi cups for a touch of exotic glamour. These tall vases create wonderful arrangements for your guests to sit under. Gaaah, there’s so much you can do, keep those snips handy!
