Summer tones, Summer textures

6th September 2021 , , ,

Fresh uniform has been purchased and pre-school has opened again for the term. With the summer holidays wrapping up and I’m getting excited about rolling my sleeves up for Autumn projects. Before I do, I wanted to share some of what inspired me during our recent holiday.

For the last two years we’ve done a split trip, spending a week in North Essex and another in Suffolk. They have become some of our favourite holidays. Last year during a heatwave we sat out and watched shooting stars not far from Clacton, this year we had the best time in a converted barn – Duck, Duck, Goose – which came fully stocked with toys for my little ones, a huge coffee machine for us adults and lots of gorgeous things for me to photograph and admire. Essex gets a bad rep but I promise it’s not all inflated lips and white cars. I love the gentle colours that can be found – the rugged beauty of greys and golds around the coast, drives past fields glowing under the pink setting sky and even the amazing tile combinations to be found in quaint seaside resort toilets (I’ve kept those on my phone). I love it because it’s simple and peaceful but there is always something do without being rushed. I really enjoyed photographing my family but also just picking up my camera to capture what inspired me.  I really hope you can take inspiration from some of these images, I’ve put my recommendations of what we got up to below.

Stay – Duck, Duck, Goose

Play – Colchester park

Beach – The Haven, Holland-on-Sea

Shop – The charity shops at Walton-on-the-Naze were great but I was tipped off that Connaught Road in Frinton were even better.

Eat – The Rosebud, Brightlingsea

Camp – Dunwich
