With the 2025 wedding season on the horizon. I want to share this British grown blue and yellow bud vase styled wedding with you. Created for a small scale wedding celebration. This collection of locally grown flowers arranged in bud vases was a gorgeous wedding to work on.
I worked with the groom’s mum to create this wedding. The bride and groom were Australia based and wanted to host a small celebration for UK friends and family. The venue was a local yacht club. My challenge was to blend the strong personality of the space with delicate British blooms. For this we focused on colour. The venue had chair covers and blue sashes already available giving us a colour scheme. The garden provided golden yellow accents which in some spaces could be too harsh. With bright south facing windows, the colours mellowed to create a dancing meadow along the tables.
Bud vases are great way to style a wedding especially if you need to make the most of a modest budget. I specifically grow flowers with lots of ‘arms’ to make a single stem go far. Love-in-the-Mist or Nigella is fantastic for this.
As is Ammi, Orlaya or Cosmos (when the season develops). Grasses are wonderful for creating movement without blocking eyelines. Small vases which can sit low to table tops look great with bigger flower heads like roses or dahlias.
The key when styling with bud vases is to select different height vases. For this wedding I selected three different height vases. These were set along the tables to create flow within the flowers. Each table had a different mix, mirroring the different textures you’d find growing naturally within a cutting garden.
The final element of the wedding set up was decorating the bar area. The venue had a plentiful supply of faux foliage. It made a perfect base and meant no sleepless nights worrying about wilting leaves. To bring it ‘alive’. I leant into the bud vase theme, adding extra large bud vases to the edges of the bar area. Weaving the fresh flower blooms into the faux leaves. I also sourced and added hand painted Chinese inspired lanterns to the final bar set up as a nod to bride and her families heritage.
I know I say this about all my weddings but I LOVED it. It was simple, elegant and made the best of the season. Essex based and looking for wedding flowers? Contact me, I’d be a pleasure to work with you on your dream day.
