Theres’s a cosy chaos to a late summer table. A sense of bringing everything together before the seasons change. With a little help from Talking Tables, I’m sharing two simple ways to style their metal scalloped candleholders.
I have worked with Talking Tables for many seasons now. Their products are so adaptable – they can be used throughout the year giving a gorgeous flourish to any table setting. The deep rust colour of these candle holders is surprisingly versatile. A darker shade adds an edge and depth to soft toned flowers. Mixed with bright blooms, the rust adds an additional pop of colour, blending rather than competing.
I wanted to use them for more than just candles. I came up with two really simple floral DIY’s. Ideal using up short stem flowers or making the most of what’s left of the season.
For the mini cluster candleholder, fix a small flower frog to the base of the candleholder. Fill with water. Using a mix of short stemmed flowers arrange a mix of open flowers and foliage so the flower frog is covered. This is a great DIY for using up short stems (mine were left over from a wedding).Very special Floret Zinnia’s were used in this arrangement, not a bud has been wasted!
The floating flower candle holder is the easiest arrangement of all. Simply fill the candleholder with water and float opened faced flowers on the surface. Leave a little stem length so the flowers can still drink. This one will last a few days. Fever Few, Dahlias and Scabiosa all worked beautifully for this one.
For the rest of the flowers on the table, I mixed a selection of my secondhand patterned vases with Talking Tables Bud Vases. These pink ones get alot of action. I used short stems, filling the vase to the top with water so every stem was nourished. They are the perfect proportion for making the most of a small selection of flowers.
A little table setting trick I like to use is, using a napkin as a placemat. With children in the mix (or me to be fair) our tablecloth’s get dirty quickly! Adding a napkin under the plate gives a few more days to a well set table.
In the box of goddies were these lilac & green gingham paper napkins. There colours were just right and added a playful touch to the table. Especially when paired with the orange & purple metal candle holder . For this table it was used a a subtle anchor point for all the other colourful touches to sit with. In the future I look forward to it having a starring roll!
With any table, its important to add in some personal and favourite pieces. Here, vintage plates and cutlery were used to finish everything off alongside my favourite glasses.
It is such a pleasure to set the table. As a family of four we spend much of the week apart. Taking time to eat slower and make the most of weekends is so important to us. Never underestimate the power of a setting table, it really does make the everyday beautiful.
Thanks to Talking Tables for gifting me the items used for the post. Flowers, Styling, photography and Words are all my own.
