June saw a lot of bouquets. Weddings arrived and I focused all my energy on creating some fantastic flowers. When it came to creating June’s bouquet, it needed to be quick and free. I gathered what I had to hand, left overs alongside some new bloomers.
This bouquet is a wild tangle of late June flowers. Marguerite daisies leftover in a bucket (they don’t smell great), scabiosca and mallow and marshmallow hung out together to create this quick display. I went for a simple hand-tie style. As the weather gets hotter, I’m leaning to a more ‘undone’ style of bouquet. A gathering of free-flowing stems.
If looked at critically, there’s lots I’d change. However, with a gentle eye, the colours are soothing and textures interesting. There is a squishiness to the Marshmallow that fits its sweet alter ego. Scabiosca gives plenty of movement, the perfect pincushion flowers bring much needed order.
To keep the undone theme going, I finished with some floral ‘ribbon’. Made very quickly by cutting up an old sundress. I like how it fits the bouquet’s rustled up style.
Six months into this monthly bouquet challenge, I’ve learnt the importance of taking time to practice. Each month brings change and an unexpected record of the flowers. Being creative is a muscle that gets better with repetition. Having a fixed point in the month is really helping me to develop my eye and skill as a floral ‘artist’. This bouquet might not be the best but it has given me new ideas to develop and work on. Creativity also takes courage and I encourage you, always, to give new things a try. Even if they are not perfect.
