This sweet British grown August bouquet wasn’t the first made. It is in fact version 2.0. Flowers took a back seat as the summer holidays came and went. Days taken up with squabbling, trips to see friends and other adventures.
However, the monthly British Bouquet challenge was up held and the original August bouquet was made before the month ended. It wasn’t photographed for a few days meaning the original dusty shades of Rudbeckia were changed forĀ mauve roses. I think the variety is Blue Moon, it was from good ol’ Morrisons a while ago. This year it is not only smelling like a good rose should but pumping out blooms like crazy!
A change of main flower changed the feel of the whole bouquet. The original felt gloriously Autumnal. This version, sweeter and more reminiscent of summer days.
Joining the roses were peach Asters. I’d wanted to grow these for years. Finally a small crop of Mother of Pearl have come to harvest. I’ll definitely be growing more next year, they have thrived in the hot summer. As have Scabiosca, Cosmos and Panicum (Sparkling Fountain). My Dahlia’s on the other hand are SO slow. I tucked the first bloom into this bouquet. More to prove to myself than anything that I can grow them!
As we leave the summer months, I’m feeling really pleased with how my bouquets are developing. Keeping to a fairly small colour palette and really mixing the textures is becoming a signature. A little trick I’ve found in creating a loose and wild bouquet style is give the flowers 24 hours to grow into their space.
I always tie the original bouquet really gently placing in water to ‘chill out’ for a while. When I return the flowers have found their place. Only then do I make any last minute amends and always finishing with a big bow. If I can!
