Sunflower harvest

Stanley asked me this evening, where the sunflowers had gone. Within a week our favourite sunny blooms had either been cut and sold or blown away. Something I’ve noticed this growing season is how a flower just disappears overnight. One minute it’ll be in full flower, then with a change of weather it knows it can bloom no more and fades away almost overnight. Luckily with sunflowers they leave the most beautiful seeds behind, passing one summer onto the next. A job for the week is to save all these seeds ready for next years crop. I grew a mix of Ruby Eclipse, Italian White and a mix free from a gardening magazine, I will happily grow all of them again, they have been delightful.
