This has to be my most favourite jar of flowers I have created this year. The pressure was on as it was commissioned for a florist by her husband for their wedding anniversary. As the budget was higher than my usual pickle jar I was able to play with the most beautiful blooms of the season. Roses, foxgloves, snap dragons, corn flowers, sweetpeas and grasses – danced together in the softest dreamy shades June could produce.
Whilst big extravagant bouquets appeal to some, these simple jars created with so much love, care and attention do it for me. Once in my order book, I spend the week watching buds open so they are at the perfect point for picking, I keep a running list of where the ‘right’ shape stems are in the garden to create movement and pick petal shades to make all the others sing. As I’m growing on a small scale varieties can be limited which makes a single stem feel even more exquisite. Of course, nothing is complete without a bow, I make sure each one is extra squishy and luxurious.
If you’d like to mark an occasion with an extra special selection of flowers, get in touch. The dusky shades of late summer are just emerging and are looking glorious.
